Whatever happened to common decency in this country? What is this country coming to?

Not long ago, sexuality was considered something that we kept behind our bedroom doors, not something that we flash in public. We also thought that bloody violence was morally wrong and should not be depicted on television. What has happened to us?

For those who went nuts over the Super Bowl half-time show, you should realize that what others have been arguing is true, that this was not an isolated incident. You look at TV these days and what you see is even worse. Look at the dating shows, the sitcoms, the wrestling shows? pretty much EVERYTHING save some. The majority of these shows are tainted with negative influences. The worst thing about it is that much of it we don?t seem to see, because we have become accustomed to it all. Take Friends for example. I am very sick about the entire casual attitude towards sex, that they all sleep around as if it was O.K. You see my point? If you don?t, then watch ?Saturday Night Live? or ?Blind Date? or ?Boston Public? or ?The O.C.? or ?Big Brother? or any of the sitcoms and see what they broadcast.  The Super Bowl half-time show was merely a culmination of this open attitude towards sex that we have been building all these years. And it sickens me, despite the fact that I am only 18.

What kind of values are we teaching to our kids these days? That it?s O.K. to sleep around? To wear provocative clothing? To swear? To commit violence? I look around at elementary school girls these days and see them dressing like Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera. I see the boys wearing ?gangster? clothing, swearing everywhere like the rappers they listen to.

You say that they should realize what the world really is? But they?re young kids, for God?s sake! When I see them, I?d like to cry because of what the entertainment industry has molded them into.

Take some responsibility for your actions.

We live in a country of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We have so much more freedom than every other country in the world. If you don?t believe it, then I ask you, how many countries legally allow their citizens to burn its flag? What we do with all this freedom is up to us. Either we be a beacon of light to the rest of the world, or what our Founding Fathers have created is all for naught. We fall down into depravity like the rest of the world. Look at the Middle East. It?s ruled by oppressive, corrupt, immoral dictators. The people are illiterate, and cannot even interpret their own religion for themselves, but are forced into dependence upon their religious leaders who are kooks, and in cahoots with the oppressive regime. My mother has a friend who came from Iran. Her daughter made a friend in school, but the friend did not know that she was a Baha?i, not a Muslim. When the friend found out, she took a knife to school. She asked her what she thought of Mohammed, and fortunately, Baha?is believe that all prophets are holy, and was spared her life. Scary is an understatement.

I am sure there are millions of similar stories. And the problem is that the people are so forced into this brainwashing. It?s not the religion, it?s the people who dictate it. If the people were able to read the Qu?ran, they would realize that those ?leaders? are liars. This is why America is so intent in bringing these regimes to an end. It?s because it is the right thing to do.

But that comes back to the question of our own culture. If we are to live up to bringing liberty to people in the world, we must first live up to a higher ideal. If we are to be corrupt, wretched, sinful, what hope is there to humanity? Certainly not the Middle East, and I don?t have to tell you that. And it all starts here, at the Super Bowl half-time show, and our future generations. Take responsibility for your life, for your children?s. If I were you, I?d toss the TV in the trash, because that is what it broadcasts, and so that is where it belongs. But I am not you. You make your own decisions. You can either let entertainment control you, or you control entertainment. It?s Fahrenheit 451.
