The controversy surrounding the events in the NFL halftime show borderlines on the ridiculous.  However, it does raise an important issue in women?s rights.  For centuries in Western culture it has been acceptable for a male to show his bare chest.  This double standard is an insult to women everywhere because it sexualizes their anatomy.  Women?s breast, unlike men?s serves a biological purpose and yet there are those that take issue with women breast feeding in public.  Janet Jackson bared one breast on national television, whether it was on purpose or by accident is irrelevant.  What is relevant is that men have been allowed to dictate whether it is acceptable or not for women to show their breast, while holding that they have some sort of divine right to mow the front lawn shirtless with their pants hanging half way down their derrieres.  If the FCC, CBS and the NFL continue this groundless persecution then all Americans should be made to carry this burden.  We as citizens should no longer accept seeing males parade around on television or in public shirtless and if they are found doing so they should be penalized as their female counterparts are, to the fullest extent of the law.
