  New Internet explorer interface?
  -- Posted by AntiAlias on 2000-03-01 12:17:38
Mars(PC Magazine) Microsoft has a new web interface called "mars" in it's current form. It has a very "colorful" look, and doesn't seem to be any easier to use than the traditional web interface. If microsoft goes this direction with the ie interface, I may just have to switch to Netscape. Read a full review (click on the thumbnail for a larger view)

Microsoft's Expedia Hit by Web Fraud
  -- Posted by Sushuma on 2000-03-01 10:21:35
(Reuters)-Expedia Inc., the online travel affiliate of Microsoft Corp., said on Wednesday it will record a fiscal third quarter charge of $4 million to $6 million to cover the cost of fraudulent transactions on its Web site. The Bellevue, Wash.-based company said stolen credit cards were used to book travel reservations through the site. They said the cards were not stolen from the site and its customers were not affected. "The security of the Expedia.com site and its customer information has not been compromised," the company said in a statement. The Expedia reserve represents the company's estimate of unreserved fraudulent activity to date and is less than one half of 1 percent of travel tickets sold, the company said. Gross bookings to date on the Expedia.com Web site total more than $1 billion.

ABC Takes Ratings Sweeps with Millionaire Again
  -- Posted by Sushuma on 2000-03-01 10:34:12
(AP)-ABC claimed its second straight ratings "sweeps" month victory, and you won't need a lifeline to figure out why. The network won its first February ratings sweep period since 1988 behind the indomitable "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," which accounted for five of the seven most-watched television shows last week. ABC also won in November. Ratings are used during sweeps month to set local advertising rates. Rival networks, to blunt the impact of a sweeps month loss, pointed out that ABC's success was almost solely attributable to one show, since "Millionaire" accounted for 18 percent of the network's prime-time schedule in February. "Had I had 'Millionaire,' I would have had it on 25 percent of my schedule," CBS President Leslie Moonves said Tuesday.
Top 10 shows, their networks and ratings for the week of February 21-27:
"ER" NBC, 20.7; "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" (Tuesday) ABC, 18.8; "Millionaire" (Sunday) ABC, 17.8; "Grammy Awards" CBS, 17.3; "Millionaire" (Thursday) ABC, 17.2; "Millionaire" (Wednesday) 15.9; "Friends," NBC 14.4; "Frasier," NBC 14.3; "Millionaire (Friday) ABC, 14.0; "CBS Sunday Movie: Perfect Murder, Perfect Town" CBS, 12.9 (Source: Nielsen Media Research)
"All things have to fall," top NBC researcher Alan Wurtzel said. "At some point, there will be a saturation. It's just that nobody knows exactly when."

Tech Stocks Lift Nasdaq to New High
  -- Posted by Sushuma on 2000-03-01 12:03:41
(CNNfn)-Technology stocks soared at midday Wednesday, pushing the Nasdaq composite index into record territory, as money chased the chip makers, online brokers and computer manufactures expected to grow revenue and earnings at a fast clip. But the Dow Jones industrial average, home to many so-called old economy stocks, was little changed, as gains in Intel, IBM and Microsoft were offset by losses in financials. Just before 11:30 a.m. ET, the Nasdaq jumped 70.43 points, or nearly 1.5 percent, to 4,766.31, a day after surging to its twelfth record close of the year. Chip makers, online brokers and computer manufactures have lifted the Nasdaq 15.42 percent this year as of Tuesday's close. "I think it's just more of the same," said Barry Hyman, chief market strategist at Ehrenkrantz King Nussbaum. "The Nasdaq is quickly approaching 5,000 and it's hard to divert money back to traditional stocks when the opportunities are so phenomenal in the new world economy."
