Following a mass resignation of members because of the group misidentifying Jully Lee on the Ovation Awards on March 30, the L.A. Stage Alliance is ceasing operations. The information was shared on the 46-year-old nonprofit’s Twitter account on April 5.
“We have now come to this conclusion with a heavy coronary heart—our intention was to signify and promote the whole Los Angeles theater neighborhood,” reads a statement from the group. “We consider in fairness, range and inclusion in any respect ranges. We have had many challenges like many different organizations, and at the moment, we’re unable to proceed.”
As previously reported, Lee’s first title was mispronounced when the nominees for Greatest Featured Actress have been learn, and a photograph of one other Asian actress was proven onscreen. The group provided an apology on April 1 because the Geffen Playhouse, Deaf West Theatre, Pasadena Playhouse and Heart Theatre Group turned amongst over 25 Los Angeles theater firms that revoked their memberships.
Lee was nominated for her efficiency in Jiehae Park’s Hannah and the Dread Gazebo, a co-presentation of East West Gamers and the Fountain Theatre. She tweeted in response to the misidentification and mispronunciation on April 1: “I used to be not the one individual misidentified with a improper photograph/title mispronunciation. I used to be simply the primary one of many evening. #DoBetter would not even scratch the floor.”
