Topic: Finance Hellboy beats out Walking Tall at US Box Office
By Jack on April 5, 2004 11:30 AM

The big-screen take on comic-book superhero Hellboy opened at number one beating out the The Rock's new pic, Walking Tall this weekend with $23.5 million. This weekend's other openers, Disney's animated cow tale Home on the Range was fourth, followed by the teenage love story The Prince and Me.

Aprils are a usually slow time of year, rarely do we see five movies top the $10 million mark. As a matter of fact, business is 39.3% better than this time last year. Overall the top 12 movies grossed an estimated $114.5 million--another up week for the industry.

Here are the top 10 weekend films, as compiled by Exhibitor Relations:

1. Hellboy, $23.5 million
2. Walking Tall, $15.3 million
3. Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, $15 million
4. Home on the Range, $14 million
5. The Prince & Me, $10 million
6. The Passion of the Christ, $9.8 million
7. The Ladykillers, $7 million
8. Jersey Girl, $5.1 million
9. Dawn of the Dead, $4.3 million
