For those who are not very familiar with ps3 error codes, ps3 error 800288C0 has something to do with your ps3 not being able to recognize the media file that you want to play. The most frequent message that comes with this problem is the message that says: "The data type is not supported", followed by the ps3 error code 800288c0. Not very friendly for a message, right?!?

To get to the bottom of this problem, you will notice that in most cases, ps3 error 800288c0 seems to pop out whenever you have .avi files that you like to play. Since .avi files are actually movie files, it then follows that you would not be able to watch it, which is quite uncool. :(

One possible solution to this problem is to use a video convertion program. Assuming that the .avi video file is in good working condition (meaning, that file is not corrupted in any way) , the converter program should be able to transform that video file into another format that is most likely playable in your ps3
