Just thought that everyone would like to know that this movie is actually adapted from The Dolorous Passion of Christ, a novel written by a mentally disturbed nun in the Middle Ages, recounting her "vision" of the last 12 hours of the life of Ben Yehoshua (the actual historical figure of Christ).   Also, The Holy Family is NOT recognized by the Catholic Church as being legitimate, and the earlier poster had it right, they do NOT recognize Vatican II.   Additionally, Mel's father, Hutton Gibson, is a rabid antisemite and conspiracy theorist, whose views on the jews have been published in many books.
Also, those of you that are offended by posters, you understand that many people have a need to be "spoilers."
I am no longer a Christian (I take the middle way), and I take great exception to the flip and smug manner in which a few of you have referred to Buddhism, but I know where this stuff comes from.  As spiritual beings, we need something larger than ourselves.  Christians call it redemption, Buddhists call it enlightenment, but many theologians recognize it as the same thing.    As humans, however, we have a deep and abiding need to be RIGHT, and to be acknowledged as such.    And that's okay, we all understand.
Finally, those of you that use Christian Scripture to "prove" Christianity are missing the point.  Unsupported text is just that, and you cannot prove a postulate with a postulate.   The bible can no more prove itself than can the Talmud or the Koran.   Faith is what is required to believe such texts, and that's what ends it.
AND, no matter what the religion, I will NEVER believe that the creator sanctions the hatred and terrorization of ANY ethnic group, whether it's african americans in a NY precinct, or Jews at Mauthausen, or Palestinians in Benin.
Finally, if you truly believe the bible, then you should believe that God sent Ben Yehoshua to DIE.    PERIOD.   Therefore, the primary culpability for the death of your Savior rests with him.
Okay, go back to sniping at one another, you seem to enjoy it.
Namaste'
Bob
