New Jerseyite,Liam Aiken, is one of the dozen remaining finalists that is contending for the role of Harry Potter in the upcoming Chris Columbus movie. Apparently he's half British, but even that goes agains the wishes/prerequisites that J.K. Rowling and the producers have put in place.
Aiken has starred in the previous Columbus film, Stepmom.
Apparently, though, Aiken is still considered a longshot due to his lack of qualifications, but one never knows. Other actors going for the roles are Tim Roth as Professor Snape, Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall and Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid. But like the information on Aiken, these are completely rumours. Warner Bros is denying an "finalizations" on the casting of any roles at this time.
Once again, don't screw this one up, Columbus. Pick the best kid for the role, but keep the wishes of the author in the front of your mind. Picking an American kid and a possible American setting would be like Spielberg setting Jurrassic Park in downtown LA.

I think that because the books take place in Britain, the actors should have a genuine British accent. We don't really want any pathetic fakers. And no, I'm not British, I'm an American also.

I think you need to calm down a bit with the anti-Yank rant. You're embarrassing. By the way I'm a Brit and it's people like you that make me ashamed. You should have more sense.

omigod! I totally agree with u! The accents of Daniel Radcliffe, Sean Biggerstaff, Rupert Grint and Tom Felton are all really hot and suit their characters wonderfully. The movie would be sooo different if they had Americans or some other nationality actors on there and I think they were right in choosing British actors!
NO, I am not British either! I come from new Zealand and luv Harry Potter- the movies and especially the actors!
This was a genuine reply to u and I hope u agree with me as well!

Well,I think they should not be too selective as I'm sure there are many children from other countries haev better talent on acting than the British.Take me for example,I'd really want to act in Harry Potter's movies but I'm a Singaporean.Aiken is A HALF BRITISH but they would not accept him.(Not to even say that I'm a Singaporean,I would NEVER EVER get a role in Harry Potter's movies)
hope
