Harry Potter Casting Woes

(MSNBC) The author of the hugely successful Harry Potter series of books has turned the rights to her franchise over to Warner Brothers to make a movie. She has however, made it clear that Harry Potter must be an English, not American, boy. Susie Figgis, the top casting director in the UK was out on the hunt for the new star, but according to her, Chris Columbus has not invited any English kid back for a second audition. She's saying that Columbus wants to cast an American in the role, and said he was considering setting it in America. Figgis has since washed her hands of her duties, and American casting director Janet Hirshenson has taken over. There's a fear of this project becoming "Hollywoodized." Lets hope that Columbus honors Rowling's request. This film could easily become overdone with Hollywood blah, and this is one film that shouldn't fall into that hole. This will be a big hit regardless, so just keep it real, Columbus.

Alright, enough with the british bashing. :) I for one, like the british, and would even like living in the UK in the future. Harry Potter should remain an all English cast, or at least mostly English. But with the "we portrayed the british as red coated nazis" in The Patriot...Well, the British at the time, pretty much were "red coated nazis." Just ask the Scottish, Irish, Burmese, Indians...etc. Just clearing that up.

The Britts were not nazis in those times they were simply trying to keep their land which the found or whatever... And the reason why villans always have english accents are because there are no good american actors who are capable of playing a villian.. That and Americans are dumb so any accent they hear which is not american makes them think the person is bad and the easiest accent to do is english.

That's the point - calling them Nazis puts the British in 1776 on the same level as the Germans in WWII, this is absolutely NOT the case - the stuff in the Patriot about setting fire to villages while people were still in them - it didn't happen and putting it in film is like making an excuse for Nazi atrocities - like "hey, the Brits did it first, so its acceptable". The Patriot manages to get the details of the period right, which makes getting the big facts so wrong even worse. 

As for all you wankers dissing the English, come and have a go if you think you're hard enough, you lumberjack shirt, baseball capped low forehead tossers!

you know guys,english people are not sucks or b*tch.it's only because it's authors choice i mean,i think,she thinks that english/british actor are fit in those roles.but i think some of the cast are american(but they're more on english cast).look,i think it's j.k. rowling's plan to have harry,ron, hermione and other cast to have a british accent so the effects of the character will be more like real.so pls. don't get disappointed,it's not only americans can be star or some french, british or whatever,all kinds of people can be,i mean like you know from different countries actor can be star BUT,it's the choice of the author or the creator of the movie.

I think in the next film Columbus or this Mexican must take some actors/actresses form the continent. We have seen that in the books after they got famous all over the world that it deals with people not only from U.K.: Beauxbatons(France); Cho Chang(China/Japan);Durmstrang (Germany?Sturm and Drang;Bulgaria or Norway); the dragons from the other countries.
I think Viktor Krum needs a hard accent (Germany?). But don`t want us for this movie!
