RealNetworks, the company that brings you RealPlayer is introducing a new product called RealSystem 8 that boasts VCR-quality, full motion video over the Internet. The real kicker, according to ZDNet, is that the full motion video aspect of it will work with dialup connections. For the broadband users they are saying that near DVD-like quality will be accessible. Its features include MP3 streaming, Flash 4 and HTML support, iPoint (a system that allows "broadcasters to seamlessly insert customized virtual advertisements and interactive program enhancements into RealVideo 8"), and RichFX, which allows 3D CG video to be transmitted at 1/20th the size of traditional video.
Seems impressive. I don't know if it'll take off, but it'll definately help pave the way for a richer multimedia experience on the Internet.

That seems pretty cool but I have never really been 'happy' with the 'products' that real makes..

exactly right--it's intrusive and invasive, setting up various non-requested programs, positioning itself in the start up group, etc

Eww, the start up thing is the worst part. The annoying flashing thing that's right next to my ICQ icon makes me think I have ICQ messages all day long...hehe
