News of the completion of the Episode II draft was first heard on Los Angeles' KROQ-FM radio, in which George Lucas called the station and made the surprise announcement.?At the time of the call, he was racing in the Long Beach Grand Prix.?Taking part in the race was Lucas' reward for finishing the script.?Last week, the official Star Wars Website reported that screenwriter Jonathan Hales (The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles) is planning to polish the Episode II script.?Hopefully he will do a good job.?As I recall, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles had tremendous potential.?Unfortunately, they did not come up with good episodes, and the series hit sad oblivion.?Episode II has the tremendous potential to be more successful than the first episode, and I hope that it does not reach a similar fate.?And here's another surprise: Lucas also announced that his Industrial Light and Magic special effects shop was working on a DVD version of Star Wars: Episode I. And it will come with extra footage too.?This is in fact a big surprise considering Lucas' early decisions of not producing DVDs.?Times are changing.?However, no release date for the DVD was given out yet.?Looks like Lucas likes surprises.?This better be good.
