Review: American Psycho

It's a dark and rather funny story about a Yuppie who leads a double life as a serial killer. The result: not your ordinary slasher flick. Boldly mixing conventions from the genres of horror, melodrama, and comedy, American Psycho (based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis) provides a witty, complex, and fascinating critique of the 80s, masculinity, and corporate culture.
Apart from the fact that there are detours into B-movie horror terrain that are arguably less satisfying, (An unpleasant scene in which Bateman wields a chainsaw on a pair of prostitutes inevitably reminds us of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) this film was very well made and equally well acted. Conclusion: I'd say American Psycho certainly isn't for everyone. If you can't laugh at the intense violence that goes on on-screen, you're going to hate this movie. I give it a 8/10 rating

The book was intense. I can't honesty say that I liked it but it did leave an impression.

With this one being steered by the "I shot Andy Warhol" chick I suspect it should be a killer show.

BaaaHaaaHhaaa!!!

thanks for the great feedback...

maybe you just like humping dead cats.

i actually liked the movie... but maybe it's better rental material than to watch at the movies..

At most I'd rate it a matanee flick (only serious badass movies are worth full price to me)

havnt read the book, but i found the movie a bit dull. I wasnt part of that whole 80's thing so maybe im biased, but it seemed crude and cliched, while there was a point, it was one made glaringly obvouse, and basically bashes you in the head with it repeatedly. No subtle aspect, or commentary, more like, look at me, im a yuppe killer...woohoo. can't you just smell the irony here?
