Ever wanted to get paid for playing video games? Well, we're not quite there yet, but hell, you can get a degree in it! Over at University of California at Irvine, you can major in Gaming Studies, and they're going to be offering courses in gaming theory next fall.?They're coming from the angle that gaming is increasingly complex and that it needs to be taken as seriously as film or any other art form.?At last! A chance to play Quake and Final Fantasy for college credit!!! I might just have to transfer...?You can read more about it here.

Having a major in gaming makes perfect sense in Irvine. Home to such companies as Blizzard, Interplay and Virgin Interactive, Irvine is a hotbed for gaming development. You can almost see the UCI campus from Blizzard's new office building and many of the employees at Blizzard are old UCI alumni. If you want to break into the gaming world and you can handle the sterile environment that Irvine is known for being, then you couldn't pick a better place to live.
