Steven Stahlberg is a 3d CG artist who has created some really lifelike 3d models and is a pioneer in the virtual actor/actress field. Here is a short excerpt from his site describing himself: Although cg has been my dream since -78 -79, I wasn't able to get near it until 1990, when I could afford to buy a pc with AutoCad. (AutoCad?) I was newly moved into Hong Kong, doing freelance illustration, and completely isolated from any sort of 3d influence, and so clueless I walked into the nearest computer mall and asked the first pc dealer I met what I should buy! I had time to build one model - a cool Stuka bomber - before I found Silicon Graphics. Again clueless, I bought what the SGI dealer offered me - a used 4D20 'Personal Iris', their lowest end model, without Z-buffer or anything, with a 200 Mb harddisk, and some free demo software (by Alias and Wavefront), for about 13,000US$. I tried the free BRML-CAD, a solid modeller used by the US military, for a while. Then I found Alias Animator, and later Power Animator, and I stuck with that until just recently, when I've switched to Alias Maya, the best 3d character software in the world. We also added some of his images to our gallery.
