I should say "a the next big thing".?Perhaps by now, you've heard stuff about PC133 SDRAM, rambus, and DDR memory.?Well, here's another one to look out for: QDR.?Quad Data Rate Memory is specified to have twice the bandwidth of DDR memory.?It's much like DDR, except that it allows simultaneous read and write operations.?It's also based on SRAM, so it might not come into the PC market for some time.?The design for this RAM has already been set by a consortium of memory manufacturers including Micron, Cypress and IDT.?Read more...

Travis,
Dave from HotHardware here. Thanks for the props on this one. Actually, QDR SRAM is indeed intended for high end network comms equipment and you won't see it come to the PC any time soon unless Intel starts using it as emmbedded cache in their processors but that is highly unlikely.
On the other hand, if the DRAM manufacturers pick up on the QDR specs, a QDR SDRAM would have all kinds of applications in a PC, so long as Intel or other chipset manufacturers can design a memory controller to use it. Just an FYI here.
Thanks,
Davo
