When George VI unexpectedly becomes king after his brother Edward abdicates the throne, he knows of the enormous task that awaits him. The biggest obstacle yet, however, was his inability to speak confidently in public, which is dangerous as it reflects his weakness to lead an entire nation. His wife decides to get help and in comes Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue, a peculiar, relaxed, and yet determined man.

Together, a remarkable friendship develops and amidst difficulties and momentary clashes, they later realized how much impact it is going to make when the King would finally deliver his speech on national broadcast, aimed at inspiring his countrymen as they go to war.
