Willie was a simple, easy going 16 year old lad living in Broome, an Aboriginal community on the Australian west coast. His mother decides to send him to an all boys Catholic boarding school so that he would learn to take a more serious path towards life. At first, everything seems fine, but soon he began getting in trouble against the iron-willed headmaster Father Benedictus. Willie rans away from school, hoping to make his way back home. An old man turned friend, Uncle Tadpole, offers to help him find his way home. They hit the road, hitch hiking and making some odd people along the way.

Unknowingly, Father Benedictus is in hot pursuit, determined to return Willie back to his grasp.
