Reinforce records searches - some tips.
Ordnance records can be obtained by The National Archive, located at Washington D.C. or at The National Military Personnel Center, situated at St. Louise, Missouri. All types of ordnance records, including reinforce records are managed by Department of the Navy. Still pictures and cartography records can also be requested.
Here is some useful information that can be quite helpful if you need to search for ordnance records.
Q: How to access ordnance records?
A: If you need to access military records, you need to submit an official request in writing. Alternatively you can visit The National Archive in person.
Q: Are there any rules for viewing records in person at The National Archives.
A: Yes. Anyone who needs to visit The National Archives in order to view records in person must first submit an official request and wait for a conformation.
What documents are needed to obtain copies of ordnance records?
Q: What documents are needed to request copies of ordnance and reinforce records?
A: All military record requests are done by submitting a standard form 180 or a DD form 214. If you are requesting copies of deceased veterans, you will need to include a copy of documents proving the death of the person. Death certificates, letters from the funeral house or obituary can serve this purpose.
Q: Who is allowed to view copies of ordnance records?
A: Most records are available to anybody interested in viewing them. Some records can be accessed after the consent of their owner or their legal representatives.
