Where to search for infantry records?

Infantry records and gunner records are under the jurisdiction of The National Archive and its various departments. If you need to get copies of infantry records, you will need to file an official request for record copies. There are two ways to do it – by posting your request to The National Archive or by visiting the archive in person. In case you decide to visit The National Archives in person, you will have to schedule your visit well in advance.

If you are looking for your own records or if you are related to a veteran and would like to obtain infantry records or gunner records, you will need to make a request in writing stating when you would like to visit the archives. Your appointment will be confirmed by the department you would like to visit.
