What are military war records and if there a way to get free military records?
A military record files information about someone's military service. Military records are managed by The National Personnel Records Center, Military Personnel Records (NPRC-MPR).
Typically military war records are available to veterans, next of kin, authorised representatives and the general public. However in some occasions certain limitations to the amount of information released publicly may apply. People interested in US military records are likely to get the folowing information:
- the name of the person
- their service number
- dates of service
- place of entrance and place of separation
- rank
- awards, medals, decorations
Free military records can easily be accessed via an online public record database.
How to search military records online?
Military records online are available at some of the leading public records databases. What you need to do is to double check in advance if the database you intend to use really offers military records, and what kind of military records you can find there. Some databases offer only access to army military records or military medical records. The search itself is pretty straightforward. Typicaly all you need to have is the name of the person whose records you need to find.
An online search for military records is a great way to find out more about a person or for your family. It is fast, reliable and confidential way to reveal a little bit of history.
