This is a story that takes place during the Great Depression. Hardship was at it peak, with no jobs and no prospects for a better life. When Homer Hobbs comes back to the urban town after spending two years in jail, he finds himself in the company of four strangers, each one striving to survive the day. Despite the grim scenario, there's another thing going on. Somewhere in the dingy neighborhood hall, men who gather together, dressed in their finest attire, whether borrowed, stolen, or otherwise. Here they compete to be hailed the king of the evening, with a five dollar price as tag.
