I was reading the paper today, and the article says that there are decisions being made within the court about breaking up Microsoft. Because Microsoft is such a gigantic corporation controlling so many things, breaking them into smaller subgroups that handle different areas such as software, hardware, OS, etc. would be more beneficial. For example, you would buy Windoze 2Krap from Microsoft, but get the Office Suite and stuff like that from a different company. I wonder what that'll do...

the move isn't nearly as huge as it sounds, but it will be a significant change. The way I see it, either 1), Microsoft will start putting out better stuff now that G-daddy will solely concentrate on the development side of the company, or 2), nothing will change in the least. The latter's more likely.
As for how the breakup will effect the industry. It can't be bad. I'm not one of those people preaching "microsoft is the root of all evils," like many ppl I know, but I do agree that they've given a lot of companies the shaft. If M$ got broken up, it would make the industry a lot more competitive, resulting in better products. Who knows though... Personally, if I never have to go through all the IE "assimilate or be destroyed" hoopla again, I'll die a happy man...
