Maine Pyar Kiya tells of a story of Suman, daughter to widower Karan, a poor engineer who plans to work abroad. He makes a request to friend Kishan, a rich businessman, to allow Suman to stay with his family. Suman later became friend with Prem, Kishan's son. What was at first shared as platonic friends later blossom into a love story as Prem sets out to win Suman's heart. When his father Kishan learns about it, Suman was sent home in disgrace.
Prem defies his father and loses his inheritance, but continues his pursuit for Suman's heart and ultimately, her hand in marriage.
