Susie Salmon, a young girl living in Norristown, Pennsylvania, was raped, brutally murdered and body dismembered by neighbor George Harvey. The only evidence found was her hat and an elbow, which the killer dropped from his bag while hiding it in a sinkhole. Susie flies off to heaven and watches the events that followed after her death. Harvey leaves Norristown after Susie's sister Lindsey sneaks into his house and finds a drawing of the pit where he hid Susie's remains.
