Based on a Novel by Sapphire, Precious the Movie centers on the life of Clareece "Precious" Jones, an African-American teen in Harlem. She suffered much from the hands of an abusive mother, and was even raped by her own father. She was less noticed in her community, and grew up poor and unloved. With so much hardship and suffering in her young life, it seems that there was no hope for Precious.
