This creepy movie centers on the two ordinary teenage kids, Darren Shan and his buddy Steve, whose lives are about to change forever. They came across a ticket to an upcoming freak show, and decided it would be cool to attend it. What caught their attention in the show was the performance of the vampire Larten Crepsley, who can make a poisonous spider do tricks. Steve later talks to Mr. Crepsley and wants to be his apprentice, but was turned down because he has "bad blood". Darren, on the other hand, steals the spider and was able to trained it.

When Steve got bitten by the spider and taken to the hospital, Darren bargains with Larten to save his friend in exchange of becoming his assistant.
