Thailand Officially Bans Anna and The King

Thailand's film censorship board today banned Anna and the King and said that police have been ordered to seize any pirated copies of the film.?As reported by the Associated Press, Police Maj.?Gen.?Prakard Stamarn, the censor board's chairman, declared: "After we viewed the movie, the majority agreed to ban it, because it makes jokes and insults the institution of our monarchy and distorts the facts.?...?It will have a negative impact on the feelings of the people, who love their king."

Yeah. The movie doesn't show how the King is a ruthless dictator.

I am a firm believer that a people has its right to their beliefs, but it is ridiculous when a country refuses to allow their people to see something that a small portion of the population finds offensive. People should be free to judge for themselves, Anna and the King is a beautiful movie. True or not, it is beautiful and movies like that are hard to come by.

I know it may be naive to believe that the world has changed so much. I mean who is to have the right to ban movies and books? That is like with Aparteid...they banned books that inspired free thinking. That was nothing but control. What makes any of us better than anyone else? Birthright? That is crazy...and I thought it was a thing of the past.
