A Smurfs movie? It's about smurfin' time!

Following in the footsteps of Garfield and Alvin and the Chipmunks, The Smurfs will soon grace the big screen with their live-action/computer animated presence.

Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation are teaming up on the film, with David Stem and David Weiss in talks to write the script.

Columbia co-president Doug Belgrad had this to say:

"We're very excited to introduce a new generation to Papa Smurf, Smurfette and the other smurftastic Smurfs in all of their 'three-apple-tall' glory."

No, seriously, he really did say that.

Galavanting again with lovable Smurfette, seeking Papa Smurf's ageless wisdom, finding that darn cat again, getting lost in the forest - all harmless fun in Smurfland. Invented by a Spaniard,who else could imagine such a carefree world of fun, fairness and fatness. Everyone is fat, curvaceous, over-endowed with muscularity - call it what you maY. The Smurfs are strong on humour; big, healthy, loving hearts and fun, fun in the sun.
If the Beach Boys had to live in a cartoon it would be this one!

I just hope it ends the robot chicken way, with gargamel kiling them all and finally getting to eat them, only to find out they taste gross
