Tolkien Estate Sues New Line Cinema
In what my prove to be some really bad news for fans of the long-awaited adaptation of The Hobbit, the Tolkien Trust has sued New Line over an alleged lack of profit participation in the Lord of the Rings movies. The Tolkien Trust are asking for more than $150 million in compensatory and punitive damages, and the right to terminate any further rights New Line may have to the Tolkien works. Which just so happens to include The Hobbit, which was expected to be shot as back-to-back films, hopefully directed by Guillermo Del Toro.

Fox Sues Warner Bros over Watchmen
The Hobbit is the only film threatened by lawsuits this week, now 20th Century Fox is claiming that they purchased the rights to make a Watchmen movie back in the 1980s. They are seeking unspecified damages and probably a portion of the films profits. Of course the film is already well into production, so I anticipate a delayed release and a settlement of sorts.
