Roy Scheider, who survived the shark in Jaws and a brutally graphic open-heart surgery in All That Jazz, died Sunday in Little Rock, Ark. He was 75. Scheider's wife, Brenda, said he died of a staph infection, brought on by complications of the multiple myeloma with which he was diagnosed in 2004.
A classically trained actor who appeared in more than 70 films, his signature role was Martin Brody, the conflicted sheriff in Steven Spielberg's breakthrough 1975 Jaws. Scheider's other films include The French Connection, Marathon Man, and 2010, the sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Rest in peace Roy Scheider.

Why couldn't have been Rob Scheider?
