Intel to Launch Fastest Pentium III Chip Yet

Intel, said it will announce on Monday that it is shipping its fastest Pentium III processors yet, running at clock speeds of 750 and 800 megahertz, and taking the speed crown away from arch-rival AMD Inc. "They want to have the bragging rights to the fastest chip in the new millennium," said Ashok Kumar, an analyst at US Bancorp Piper Jaffray, adding that Intel had been targeting sometime in the first half of next year to ship 800 megahertz Pentium IIIs.?Will this be just another peice of buggy hardware they release to early so they can beat AMD Inc. or will we yet see the fastest consumer CPUs? Yes, but they aren't shipping until something like March. So even though they make the claim that they have the fastest chip, AMD still has the fastest chips that the average consumer (i.e. not a tester etc) can buy.

Actually, you (or retailers anyway) can get a Pentium III 733MHz chip already.

Yes, we can get a 733mhz pentium. And a 750mhz Athlon. So what's your point?
Intel still doesn't have the fastest AVAILABLE chip. 

And I guess it's too late to remind you that an Athlon did get clocked at 1ghz using cryotech's equipment. Now of course no one is going to buy this stuff, but if we're JUST talking about what the chips can do and not availablity, then...
