Everyone out there with a little dork in them knows that Halo, a popular X-Box game about a master chef fighting an evil flood (we kid), is being "adapted" into a feature flick. ?Alex Garland (wr. 28 Days Later) wrote the first draft of the script, but the studio has since dicarded it (sad news). Now Neill Blomkamp (commercials) has signed on to helm. ?Peter Jackson (dir. Frightners) is executive producing.
Who is he, you ask? ?We're not sure either. ?What we do know is that studios love to hire small, powerless young directors for large summer tentpole franchise event flicks so they can steer all ideas in the direction of marketing instead of quality filmmaking. ?Just saying.
Halo

In addition to a couple Nike commercials, Neill Blomkamp directed the first dancing Transformer-themed car Citro?n commercial spot which has been circulating the intar-wheb for quite some time. 3D animator turned director, I think he's a pretty damn good. Also, Neill Blomkamp's short film "Alive in Joburg" which was released with a creative commons license on Archive.org (link) leads me to believe that he deserves a shot at a feature and he's the perfect choice to helm this Halo movie.
