Having been a fan of comics as a youngster and still to this today, I only hope they do not take too much liberty with regards to the true charactors as defined by the comics. They hit Spiderman/Peter Parker on the nose although they fudged a bit on the original story line regarding the webshooting and the genetically altered spider as opposed to the radioactive one. I guess I'm a purist.

The first "true" teaser I have seen in years. I remember the first superman trailer in the 70's and this holds true to the origional feeling of wanting to see more. (that was just clouds and Brando's voice) This captivates the audience and has them looking, eagerly, to June 06.

I liked the trailer. They give you just enough to want more and that's the old rule of show biz, leave'em wanting more. I was very happy to hear the John Williams' soundtrack and Marlon's narration from the Donner film. As Brando is dead and Jor-El is meant to be dead, it added an otherworldly quality to hear his words. I also appreciated the cloud shot tied to the "light" narration and Superman looking down from the Heavens when he "sends them my only son." Perfectly highlights the Superman/Jesus symbolism. Superman as an example of what man should strive to be. If Singer instills that feeling for the movie, without getting blatantly religious, the character mythos will be reinvigorated.

This trailer makes Superman look like a complete bad ass!! I was humbled by the voice of Marlon Brando and the John Williams original theme. I wept and knelt down on my hands and knees to pay homage to Jesus..er...I mean Superman as he opens his eyes and looks down at us from the heavens below and flies down to honor us with his presence.

I'm somewhat new (a few years) to the Superman fandom, but this trailer has me more excited about him than I ever thought I could be! The music is beautiful, and like any John Williams score, it's perfectly married to the scenes. I can't wait!

Me too! I've listened to it over and over because I love those lines. I'm a big fan of Smallville, but it's nice to see a good Jor El again after seasons of intrigue. I believe he loved his son, and I love that he gave Kal El as a gift to earth. What a gift!

IMO I like spiderman better, I just don't buy Routh as supes. Spiderman will squash superman at the Box office and thats just part 3 coming quite in 2007. And I'm sure everyone in here agrees with me on the spiderman thing.

I.m a huge superman fan, read alot of the comic books in m7y younger years. I really enjoyed listening to Marlon Brando, I'm a bit skeptical about Routh. I'm a big fan of the smallville series, a little cheesy sometimes yes I admit it but I think Tom Welling does a good job at it and would have been a good prospect for the movie. He has the new look and can have the bad boy look as well. We all know now that the lawful good superman we used to know has to change a bit, we need to see him a bit more chaotic, more of a superman born again type of guy.
Loved the trailer!

The trailer was great! I liked how they mixed in the original music and narratives from Jor-El. Beautiful visuals of him flying down from space, gave me matrix flashbacks as well, which of course was intended to mimic superman) I'm not all that thrilled with the design change in the Suit, ie: The Smaller S on his chest and unnecessary S on the buckle. Also a brighter red cape and boots would have been more approptiate as well. Other than that, I look forward to seeing the movie when it comes out in the Summer of 06'. I'll be the first online.

i cant understand how all you retards are soo twisted out about the costume. it truly looks awesome. the suit were all used to was designed about 30 years ago. only short sighted, ignorant assholes expect a brand new, kickass superman, with the same spandex - theatre suit you saw 28 years ago. do yourselves a favor... go watch the other superman movies, and look closley for all the cable lines in plain view as he takes off and lands. its 2006., keep open minds about updating the look of a guy who flies around in blue, red, and yellow. many cheers to whoever could make that fit into todays standards. THE SUIT LOOKS GREAT. THE MOVIE LOOKS GREAT. KUDOS BRI.---B

Why are you leaving comments then? I don't understand why you nay sayers are even contributing to the posts on this bulletin board. If you are so against this movie, why are you tracking it so closely? Just to have something to bitch about I guess? We are talking about 28 years from the first Reeve movie. Things change guys. Look at the Batman costume in the past several movies. If you look at the Superman comics over the past 50 years you are going to see tons of changes. How can we rule Routh out without even seeing a full scene with him playing the part? A bit close-minded I would say. I have been happy with everything else Singer has done so far. I was actually encouraged when i first heard that the X-men director was taking this project on. I somewhat followed the Superman project over the past 11 years, and trust me, if Tim Burton did this, and Nicolas Cage was playing Kal-El, I would be with all of you critics on this deal. For any of you who never heard about what I just mentioned, it is true. Cage got impatient and left the project, and Burton never could give WB a good enough script. Thank God!!!! Singer will hold true to my favorite hero of all time. I ahve faith. And, I am sure there was plenty of pecicism with the casting of some nobody Christopher Reeves when that first full-length 78' film was released. It all worked out then, better then anyone would have ever thought. And yes, I am thrilled about Williams's score being used in the new film. His soundtrack for Superman has got to be the most definitive soundtrack for the world's greatest hero fo all time. Anyone who hears that original score knows it is Supes!!! I can't think of another comic film with a more well-known hymn. I don't think you can make a superman movie without it. That si all I have to preach, thank, you and Good Night... :)

There are many things that I have to say about what I saw Thursday night during Smallville. I have known that there was going to be a Superman Returns movie since debut of Smallville Season 1. The idea of bringing back another actor to take the place of an icon like Christopher Reeve that does not resemble him in any way is disgusting. Plus the idea to say that this movie takes place after Superman 2 and for us to forget 3 and 4 like it never happened is a total disrespect for Christopher Reeves work. I know that the last 2 of his films weren?t good, but in fairness it was his work. From the trailer I can say that it was great to hear the voice of Jor-El played by the late Marlon Brando with the Planet krypton track. The rest of the trailer reminded me old comic trailers like batman begins, daredevil and so on. But the scene at the end when the showed Superman above earth dashing into it destroyed what Superman means to the rest of us. Not to mention that this exact scene was done in the Matrix Reloaded when Neo goes up to the clouds and storms down. What is this about? I know there are people syked up about this right now but it?s because of the special effects and that?s about it. You don?t know or care about Superman just like the director Brian Singer, a man who at comic-con didn?t know anything about the comics or the characters names. A man who made 2 crappy x-men movies just to get wolverines claws right. All you people who say that the old movies had bad effects and so on, but defending it by saying they were great are just NBI (Natural Born Idiots). You can say whatever you want to me but I don?t care about you, I only care about what Christopher Reeve left us real fans, and that is a Superman that can never be replaced by another actor or technology. Now if you are a fan you would know this too because I have been a Superman fan since birth and I have wide collection of Superman comics, and to look at these comics you can see Christopher Reeve in them. Now about the costume, the whole thing is also wrong to begin with. The S is way too small, and I don?t care about you people who are saying that his S crest was small years ago because if you look at how it was drawn it will still be the same size today. The S crest difference was color and design; he just got bulkier over the years. Just look at the Lois and Clark T.V. series; he started with a small S crest and what happened? People complained and made it the size it supposed to be. As for the costume, Brian says it has to be a different material. Now if he was a fan he would go to a comic shop right now and look at the costume and he will see that it hasn?t changed at all. So why change it? I know he is trying to make a Superman movie, but for all the wrong reasons. It?s funny how the world is today that they give people money to make movies that have no knowledge of what they are doing compared to a person who knows a great deal of it. Last I will say that if he was a fan of Superman since he was small he would not have done this movie to begin with. This is all a smokescreen about the amount of money the name Superman is going to bring just like everything else in this world, and they don?t care if it sucks or not because we all live in an age of marketing and as long as they make money nothing else matters. Now I know this movie is going to be bad but as for the followers who have already being sucked into this, I have to say you?re the worst ones for accepting this atrocity. For the fans I say watch the comic con interview and his blogs in these sites prepare to be horrendified. Bryan?s an asshole, that?s all I have to say.

Well, I wasn't impressed with the preview. It was interesting to hear Brando as Jor-el, and I loved the John Williams soundtrack, but I am worried about what the producers are trying to do here. This trailer is just further evidence. They are making a sequel (sort of) to Superman II. The trailer was suposed to remind us of the first trailer. Keaton's Batman was good, but the new movie went a different route. I'm not sure how I'll like lex luther as "the greatest criminal mind of our time" he is much more interesting as an underhanded business monger. I think, that like the matrix sequels and the new star wars, we may all be in for a let down. I'll still be seeing the movie several times, because like most of you on the sight, I want to like anything that has to do with Superman.

Look, I have have mounds of respect for the late Reeves. but c'mon, the torch ahs got to be passed for our children and their kids and so on. Superman must live on. Tom Welling wouldn't have been perfect for the part, as he is too young. The movie is called "Superman Returns", remember? It's following (kinda) the storyline of the first movies. Read the plot in the official website: "Following an unexplainable absence of several years..." (my guess is he went to find any remains left of Krypton).... They are adapting this movie to this time. Lois has a kid, for chrissakes. Somehow, I don't think It would have worked with Tom Welling, since you'd have to bring back Erica Durance as Lois and she wouldn't have been able to pull it off. Also, Kevin Spacey, a far more mature and badass luthor than Michael Rosenbaum.

First of all, what's this got to do with Superman Returns? Second, of course it's not real. U think she'd be so stupid as to tell people if she did? It's the same as those emails about Tommy Hilfiger being a racist and so on.... they are fake stories, created by jealous people who have nothing else to do than complain about how others are doing so well and their own life is thrown to shit.. so they have to make up stories like these to make them feel better about themselves.

Why are you saying that the guy who wrote Cinema Garbage is dumb? Look at the friggin state of that post mang! I understand that the guy PROBABLY DOES take the whole thing a little too seriously but I think i picked up on what he meant. While it WOULD be great to see the man of steel revived for our childrens' generation, I think Bryan needs to step carefully with respects to the success of the old flicks. That success was built, in my opinion, on the principles that even the most average of us have the capability to achieve amazing things in our lifetimes. I believe this to be the messege when you see Clark Kent, the socially fragile reporter, rise to the challenges both in his own life and the lives of the people around him. I'm not a MASSIVE fan of comics but did enjoy the movies and i know what I walked away from them feeling. I wouldn't mind seeing my kids walk away from the movies someday with the same excited feeling that I had, a feeling that made me want to HELP everyone and anyone i could rather than them listening to this rap crap for example, promoting selfishness and to see they're ultimate goal in life realised: to have bitches n' hoes n the rides of they're dreams. I feel spiderman 2 did this well on the scene where peter jumps over a taxi while riding his scooter. He replies to the kids that he ate his vegetables. Cliche'd/clever, whatever you think of this little messege, it was implemented into the movie with subtly instead of the old "Stay in school" attempts at being responsible. Kids don't want to be hearin about no stinkin veggies while paying money to watch an action movie, but done correctly, a movie can influence the minds of the next generation. I ain't a preaching parent who doesn't let his kids do anything. I'm a fan of the Grand Theft Auto games as it happens. But i'm responsible. My children play and watch these materials as long as I see it is always taken in good jest. I am just here as a guide for them. (Apologies for getting off the subject btw)
Christopher Reeve brought a presence and magic to the Superman role that can't be replaced. This is probably an obvious statement, but this new movie will either enhance or deminish the Superman legacy and Bryan is a VERY brave guy to be the one directing this movie. If he makes it a gem, he will have Superman fans rolling out the red carpet for him... however, IF he blows it... he may find himself rolled up INSIDE that carpet, swimming with the fishes.
His career will undoubtedly be over though, thats for sure.

Plus Spacey Ruined his bad guy image for me after he did his cameo on Goldmember, i bust out laughing every time i see him. If they really wanted to save this franchise and the batman franchise THEY SHOULD HAVE PLAGERIZED THE COMIC WE ALL LOVE AND JUST DO THE DAMNED COMIC. Stop making something new, fans of the comics WANT TO SEE THE COMIC ON SCREEN, not some directors "revisioning". Not impressed with the trailer, ill be sleeping in and waiting for someone to rent me a rental :D. WICH WILL BE NEVER. ha. omfg. poor kids today. I believe it would be difficult to make a sequel without changing actors, since Chris Reeve has passed away, you dumbass, not to mention Margot Kidder is about 50 now... And before you say that they should have never made SR, let me remind you: SUPERMAN SELLS!!! IT IS A PROFITABLE FRANCHISE!!! I don't care whether comic book fans want to see the comic imprinted on screen, and I can assure you, the Studio cares even less... Sure, they may lose some fans over this, but trust me... they WILL gain many more young fans than the ones they lose, and that's what they're aiming with this. Who cares wether you like Kevin Spacey as Luthor?!?! Personally, I think he'll do, but you don't see me bitching about it, do ya? Get out of your mother's basement and get a job, why don't you (or a life, matter of fact)?!?! (No offense intended for those who are reading this and actually live on their mother's basement... It's just that people that think they can run a studio or direct a movie better than any certified director just because they have been reading the comic for the past 40 years piss me off). You can't bring Chris Reeve back, he was, and will always be THE Superman, but life goes on...

This is pointless naysaying when the movie hasn't even been released yet!
Furthermore, the trailer looks VERY VERY GOOD.
Your arguments for not wanting a sequel are as follows:
1) Forgets Superman 3 and 4.
2) Supposedly Discredits Christopher Reeve.
3) The "S" in the Superman costume is too small.
4) Bryan Singer is only doing it for the money, and has no love for Superman.
Let me break the arguments down:
1. PLENTY of comic book writers re-write comic book continuum and history. Look at Kingdom Come by Alex Ross: set in a theoretical alternate DC universe that will never ever be, and yet it is still an engrossing film.
2. You are acting like Christopher Reeves LOVED playing Superman and that it was his calling. Get a grip on reality, man. He was an ACTOR working for PAYCHECK; it wasn't his religion, so you shouldn't worship the Superman franchise movie like it's a new Zen way of life when they are just movies. Movies are made to be entertaining and to gross money, not to build a sacred history that no one must absolutely touch.
3. Singer already explained that in the history of Superman comic books, dating all the way back to the 50s, the size of the "S" has been changed considerably from time to time. And isn't it a rather uninteresting and moot point, to say that a movie won't be very good simply because the "S" logo isn't exactly drawn to the millimeter that you are used to?
4) Bryan Singer is a very SUCCESSFUL Hollywood director. He doesn't need Superman or X-Men to make money. He could ask Universal for a $200 Million Dollar budget to direct Speed 3, and he could gross as much money as he wanted to. He is obviously doing the comic book genre for the love of the story.

I'll grant you I've had more than my share of poignant moments. Life passes most people by when they're busy making grand plans for it.
