Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. Independent pictures has no plans of releasing the film version of the wacktastically strange and funny Comedy Central show Strangers With Candy. ?Created by Amy Sedaris (sister of writer David), Daily Show star Stephen Colbert, and actor Paul Dilano, Strangers is about a freaky looking 40 year old that goes back to high school to finish what she started. ?Is SWC the new Fiona Apple? ?A online campaign grows to help save this movie.
Love the show Strangers with Candy and want to see the movie? ?Write Warner's Independent Pictures and urge them to release the film. press@warnerindependent.com
Is SWC the new Fiona Apple? ?Read random SWC fan Mike's (some guy from Boston) open letter to other fans of SWC.

Here's an artist's rendering of SWC's main character, Jerri Blank.

I honestly dont know why anybody liked this show. And more to the point, would want a movie of it. Everytime I see the main character, I suddenly want to punch a baby. The show just isn't funny. The only good part about the show, is that Steven Colbert is in it. I dunno... can anyone explain to me why people like this s*it?

Yes, I can. One simple answer...intelligence. The movie/series IS funny if you understand the social implications of what they're saying. If you don't get it, stick with liking politically correct comedy. That usually requires no intelligence.

I agree that this show is very funny. The entire series is a non-PC parody of the old-time "after school specials" that I used to sit through as a child, hence the title. I have been waiting forever for this film to be released, and now it looks like I may never see it. That totally stinks.

Juxtaposition. That's what makes it funny. Juxtaposition of a 40 something ex-drug user/ex-prostitute/ex-con going back to high school. But mostly it's the characters and the absurdist plots.

Why would any one buy the rights to a movie and not distribute it. Strangers with candy is one of the funniest tv shows I have ever seen. But not everyone will like it and thats why they still rerun the waltons and little house on the prarie. I will be first in line weather it comes out on video or in theaters.
Release Strangers with Candy!!

I don't know what Warner Independent's problem is! Strangers With Candy was one of my favorite TV comedies...I own all three of the DVD sets and am looking forward to seeing the movie if it ever makes it to theaters or DVD. Warner Independent must be crazy to pass on such a great series adapted into a theatrical release.
Bring it on!

First of all, SWC went off the air way-too-soon! Now what's the deal with the movie? SWC is not a Colt classic - it has a grwing fan base and I don't understand why it doesn't get the air time it deserves. Bravo to the writers - SWC is brilliant and the movie NEEDS to be released ASAP!!!
