George Lucas is *imaginative*... I'll give him that much. But, in my opinion, his imagination is limited. Plus, he is given too much decision making when it comes to film making his theatrical creations. Either that, or he can't get himself a good production crew/group. As for his movies; they could've been ALOT better. I've been very critical about his Star Wars movies. Sometimes I wonder if they've gotten this "epic" because there was NOTHING ELSE out there to compete with these so-so movies. I mean why do you have to go back and touch-up *original* trilogies...(other than degrading film material) can't they stand on their original film merit?

Lucas is not "given" too much decision making, he is the decision making part of his company.
Most people just don't realize that the last 3 SW flicks have been very expensive independent films with Lucas as the godhead.
In some ways I have to agree with his comments about how he "ruined" the franchise. They are his movies to do with whatever he wants. Fans like to assume some kind of ownership of popular entertainment but it's not their place to do so. If you don't like something, don't watch it.
Anyhow I can't beleive all the tunnel visioned fan boys and girls who actually thing the original trilogy were some kind of high art. I hate to break it to ya' but, the first 3 movies were just as full of cringe inducing lines and acting as the last 3. It's only through rose colored glasses that anyone could possibly think that those first 3 were great films.
Since I'm the only one old enough to have seen the original movies in the theater let me assure all of you that the critics of the time said the same things about those flicks as the new ones. Bad acting, horrible writing and a reliance on the special effects to propel the story.
My final comment is this. With all of the geeks hating the new trilogy just how did they make so god-damned much money? Methinks there are many 2 faced lurkers among the fans....

There is nothing else out there to compete with the 800lb. Lucas Gorilla. Star Wars has/had some cool concepts in characters, filming, *acting* and maybe even some interesting strategies in pushing their product outside the theatre(s) and what not, but there is/was nothing out there to challenge the throne of Lucas/Starwars. Maybe one day. Love it or hate it... we need more alternatives. Either way there's only one person getting super-rich from this. And Lucas isn't being too generous with his *creation*.

Hmm...Star Wars is the all time ruler of sci-fi movies... So far, that is. I haven't yet seen serenity so i can't know for sure.(Hopefully Serenity will have nudity)

Let's not forget Babylon5. That was high camp and the same person wrote almost the entire series and it covered five years. The dialogue was high class. George Lucas took 20 years to do 6? I liked Star Wars but I though Babylon5 was in a higher class of it's own.
