This is the first movie I've heard anything about that seems to show what happens most of the time in war; that is, being bored, doing nothing, and waiting for shit to happen, and then getting shot at some. That's how my deployment was.
Looks intresting....

As a MARINE myself I would say that just by watching the trailor it brought back some memories, not of P.G.1 (went in a couple of years before afganastan.)but of life in the corps as a grunt! It nearly jerked tears of pride and sadness, epecially the part where they are playing catch in the desert while wearing their gas masks and when the main character witness the burial of fellow Devil Dog!

I just picked up the book no longer then 3 days ago and had no idea that they were coming out with a movie. I got about half through it thou so before it comes out I should be finished. As for the footbal in the desert with the MOPP and gas mask on. That scene was when the reporters came in for the first time and 1 gave a football to the main character. The colonel notices them tossing the ball so he orders them to play a game withthe suit and mask on for the reporters...not to go into too much detail the men are happy to ruin the suits by playing football, hey 10 less lbs in yur ruck. The book is a good read.

I THINK THIS MOVIE IS THE BIGGEST LOAD OF SHIT I HAVE EVER SEEN, IT IS HISTORICALLY INACCURATE, AND LOOKS VERY UNINTERESTING, THIS UNDERMINES ALL OF OUR TROOPS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN JUST BY BEING A MOVIE, I HOPE EVERYONE IN THAT MOVE WILL BURN IN HELL!

im not sure wtf the rest of you guys think, but i know that this movie is such a bad one, that it is ALMOST COMPLETELY WRONG in the details, first off, who the mother fukkin hell gives one damn for the life back in the states, it should be simply focused on his training and the war, and thats it, second this reminds of that show on FX called "Over There", which IS THEE BIGGEST PIECE OF SHIT SINCE THIS MOVIE, THIS MOVIE "JARHEAD" MAKES OUR TROOPS LOOK LIKE A BUNCH OF BITCHES WHO SLACK OFF THE WHOLE FUCKING TIME, I CAN SAY FOR A FACT THAT OUR TROOPS ARENT THAT LAZY, AND SINCE WHEN THE FUCK DOES SADDAM HUSSEIN ACTUALLY PUT UP A REAL FIGHT IN THE PERSIAN GULF WAR?!?!?!??! WE SLAUGHTERED HIS FORCES, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. SO AS FAR AS I SEE THIS THING IS A PIECE OF HISTORICALLY INACCURATE SHIT THAT SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO BE VIEWED, IT UNDERMINES OUR TROOPS, AND THAT I CANNOT STAND!
Did you fight in IRAQ

How do you know it's inaccurate? Were you in the First Gulf War, were you in that unit during the First Gulf War? If not than for all you know it is an accurate film... just because you don't like the idea of Lazy US Marines doesn't mean it isn't true.
Why's his home life important, because it is part of who the character is and not all war movies need to focus on the fighting... the home front is part of every war just because it bores you doesn't mean it's not important. As for the series Over There, once again I ask have you fought in Iraq? The thing about TV series' is that they get one group to portray a whole bunch of scenarios.
Both of these entertainment pieces may be fictious and completely out in left field but I can't say that for sure, and unless you fought in those places or fought anywehere for that matter in the US Armed Forces than neither can you. Leave the opinions of its realness and its accuracy to those that were there or have a similar experience giving them the knowledge to speak objectively.

i just saw the movie lastnight and thought it was kinda funny and depsion at some time..because just seing what our troops have to go threw to proctect our country while we sit in our houses and bitch about somthing that you dont get...these men where risking there lives for us and desirve every respect from us..yes the movie did show some parts of them slacking but thats how they kept them selfs busy and not go insane like an ex marine i know..he was in war for a while and just lost it and fliped out. but other wise this movie had almost everything in it..i think it was funny at some parts but yet again sad to see what our troops have to go through to proctect us.

lol I think all of who who say this movie is inaccurate and dumb are kind of ignorant. Swofford wrote of his OWN account. How can someone's own account be wrong?
I thought not only was the book good, but the movie was as well. Plus, Jake Gyllenhaal is hot.
