You haven't mentioned the UGLY font. From the screenshots I see they still use it.
Oh boy do I hope these fools change the font!
and uhm, I still don't know why there's such a hype about a new Q3 test demo thingy whatever it's called. we've all played the game before.
also, we've all complained about the regular updates for quake2 and now everybody downloads every new test version of q3!!!
I think you should play another great game which has something new to offer. check tribes or tf2 (when it's released) because these games KICK Q3 ASS!
sorry ;)

Well I have to say I love the Test Demo. The Bots are fun and some what challenging. The new map is cool for some one on one fighting. I like some of the tiny things they have added in(eg.. the skull with a light pointing down on the rail gun on Q3Ttest2).I have only been playing it for about a half hour. But so far so good. Good job id.

Interesting that no one is mentioning the changes that actually affect gameplay (i.e. not the graphics).
In the demo they've made a lot of changes clearly geared towards the novice player:
1. Player speed is increased - as a funtion of this, it is quite easy to make jumps that required a great deal of skill in the prior test.
2. The rocket launcher, always too powerful in Q3A Test IMO, was made more powerful with ridiculous blast effect so any newbie who can aim in your general direction can send you flying now.
3. Faster railgun - though very fast, the railgun isn't instantaneous. Its travel speed has been increased more and now it's even easier to make a long shot from q3test2.
How do people feel about these gameplay modifications?

I Think Q3DT is realy pretty
This is a game that i can play along to against my friend and now with bots.
The graphic is wonderfull it's better then the Graphic-Engine like UT.
But a worse think is that a must install new driver for the game that's shit so must play it under TNT not under 3DFX.
SO that's all
Nice greatings from Germany

I can't wait to get home and grab the demo. I hated the railgun in the last test so much I quit playing it. Unreal Tournament is alot more fun but my hardware (TNT/celeron 450) needs a little more power for UT. Glad they sped up the railgun and increased the blast radius/power of the rocket launcher. It should feel more like Quake2's weapon balance which is what I and many millions of others have come to expect.

The only thing that came to mind was - "YAWN. Been there, done that." It's about time to evolve a little. Great eyecandy but how has the concept or gamplay improved over the original Quake let alone QuakeII? Tribes was a great step but still... there has to be something more than capture the flag or just run around the level blasting each other. Maybe it's fun if you are a mindless zombie but I would prefer something a little more cerebral. Plus, UT has nothing to fear from Id's bots... they are retarded at best. Don't get me wrong, it's a great addition to the Quake family but, I hope they are working on something else cause this one just doesn't do much that's new.

Adding to the HITSCAN reply, the railgun has always had some sort of "delay" before showing the trail... realize it's not the trail that hits them! :) (same in q2)

For your unlearned information and in my defense (in other words I am not a dumbass) your FPS is indeed lowered during a screenshot as well as the fact that I was running Netscape, Seti, ICQ, SecureCRT, photoshop, ACDC and several other apps in the background while running quake with "High Quality" turned on and a screenshot.. on a TNT1 (Diamond Viper 550) and a Celeron 450. at 800x600rez you are bound to loose some framerate. I will be posting some of my frame rate shots soon.

by the way man, don't post shit like this and claim it was a bug. no one is stupid enough to belive that a copy of the 2d texture palate was a video bug that you came across.

Look I have work to do and rather than spend my time trying to ward of your belittling comments I have decided I would quickly do a run through and grab a few RANDOM Screenshots on all maps. (NO NOT FACING A NON-TEXTURED/LIGHTED WALL) and you can judge for your self.. If you still prefer to go on in the fashion you have been so far, there is nothing I can do but I will say this: IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN LEAVE.. if some one is holding a gun at you forcing you to stay on this site well as much as I am happy to have such a fan of this caliber you should probably call 911 or any other emergency support line to aid you.

I think the UT bots are WAY more realistic... and Q3's weapons are a bit too powerful.. especially the rocketgun... you don't even have to be close on a shot to get a kill. Also the colors and textures in UT are much nicer. Would someone please tell ID that there are more colors than brown and green.
Ah well, it was just announced that UT went golden.. should be in stores by Friday!!!
see ya Q3!!!

The q3a bots are back to the old "My increased skill means I cant miss no matter which way I'm facing". These are obvously cheating bots. Nothing like human driven foe! Carmack said the bots were the weakest part of the development a while ago. Things haven't changed :(

Well - I've got a few comments....
first - tribes I/II sucks....
2nd - TF2 WILL rock....but no demo's available.... and none will be in the next 6 months or so...
3rd - the bots in UT are killers! the hardest there is impossible and the hardest on Q3DT is pretty easy when u get the idea.
But no questions about the graphics in Q3 - those are the best in all gendres...

You might consider adding some sort of moderation feature... (ala slashdot) or something of the like... One or two of the posters are just out of touch with reality and are quick to throw foul words at anybody. That or (yes I know I am one too) disable anonymous posting,.. maybe that would reduce some of the white noise,.. and we can actually read posts by people who atleast TRY to use their brains besides trying to figure out what their next insult will be. (sigh)

rocket gun.. rocket launcher.. whatever... it's still way to easy to get kills with it.
The bottom line is that Q3 is competing directly with UT.. and at this point losing badly... IMO.
UT has better weapons, effects, textures, colors, bots, skins, a much more advanced interface and most importantly.. better and more stable internet play. About the only thing I like better about Q3 so far, is level with all the the jump pads.. and I've already seen several duplicates of this level for Unreal.
I haven't tried the latest Q3test net play (can't find a server, hmmm...) but the UT demo net play is awesome... even playable on a 56k modem.
Last time I tried Q3 net play.. the winner was always the person with the lowest ping. no one else had much of a chance. You had to try to GUESS where your enemy was going... then try to factor in the delay of the weapon getting there... yeah right... that's real fun
Does Q3 have anything like mutators or are you stuck with an archaic command line. Does Q3 come with a level editor/designer???
Yeah I know... its only a test... but I for one am glad to see UT really pushing this gaming genre forward... and giving ID all it can handle. Competition is a good thing.
I'll probably buy both games... along with Team Fortress and Daikatana as well, but right now from what I've seen so far... UT is way in front..... and the competition has much work to do to catch up.

I personally found the bots in UT to be frustrating at best, not becasue I couldn't beat them, but becasue they could perform impossible moves. I've been lining them up and mowing them dowing with the pulse riffle and they'll be standing there rapidly diving side to side while shooting me with the enforcer and hitting me every time. I don't know how many of you have tried this sort of thing but I think it's damn near impossible. A friend and I have beaten 4 bots on godlike skill in a CTF game (it took awhile) and although we were proud, it was obvious we'd beaten a machine and other players. Bots need to be human, and that is no easy feat.

Well, it's a pretty low priority on our to do list. Come back every day with a few hundred more people, post a lot of comments, and then we'll put it in :) We usually get one or two comments on a story if we're lucky.

My opinion is that the id just are crap at designing AI, they have designing no good AI in any of their games..
eg: I was playing bot on second hardest level (one before nightmare). And I was sneaking around, the bot was facing the other way. BOOM! I was dead with a shot gun. What a load. How could he hear me when I was both going slow & hiding behind a wall?

Sorry, but UT kicks Q3A in the ass quite thoroughly so far. This demo never got my pulse going like UT does, it doesn't look as good, the weapons are boring and have no alternate fire, and the graphics engine take more horsepower, which was the most surprising thing of all! Can't wait for UT this weekend. Id better have some serious cards up their sleeves, or they are going to eating Epic's dust this season.

I almost cried with my accomplishment of getting 53% accuracy after beating q3dm17 in nightmare mode. If your accuracy is somewhere around 40% or so, the game rewards you after the match is done. I got the accuracy award with the rail, not sure if it applies with other weapons...
