Ever wonder why you never see the Lord of the Rings and the Wizard of Oz together at parties? Maybe that's because they're actually the same damn story! Dig Weirdload.com's comparison of the two stories. Dtheatre wonders, does this means Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon will work on Fellowship of the Ring? Just kidding.  Sort of.

Lord of the Rings also has alot in common with films such as Star Wars or Harry Potter. It doesn't mean much, other than they all adhere to a certain set of story-telling devices.

If you actually go to that website you'll see that they make some very valid comparisons between LOTR and Wizard of Oz. I don't really think that Tolkien was influenced by Wizard of Oz in any way but it's hard to deny that they both use a number of similar narrative techniques, just like Starwars or Harry Potter, etc...
