Remaking this classic is not that bad an idea. Since the original was made with antiquated effects, although realizing this is a "Radio Play" and done by one of the greatest men in the last century. But let us look at this for a minute...very dramatic, very dated (martians) and not extremely CLIMACTIC...infact the end of the original movie was about one of the greatest let downs in cinematic history...open door catch cold and DIE...whatever...the Radio Play worked so much better because the world didn't know it was pretend...mass panic broke out in many parts of the United States because people turned on thier radios late that evening and heard what they thought to be a "Real" news report, then they called friends and family and had them tune in...panic and histeria ensued...so the ending was altered to make it easier to calm the frazzled nerves of a nation "at War"...but for a movie that you walk into knowing tha first it is fake, seconf that you will win, and third that all you have to do is sneeze on them and you can walk away unharmed...using one of the bigger names for acting in action and the biggest name for direction in science fiction/fantasy action is a waste of the talents...give this project to someone coming up in the ranks for a debut or break out picture...use a lesser known group (ie: LOTR) and make a name for them with something new, loved and improved.
Thanx,
Shemp the most underated Stooge
