Online, looking at the image, I'd have to say the reflection one is spiffy..not great, but spiffy.. Now, after seeing the official one in person (we received them at work today [AMC Theatre Employee]) I have to say the official one is quite sexy.
not good

Let's hope the movie is better than that "official" poster. The fan poster is a little lame, but it has the right idea at least, with the Vader reflection. Someone should show it to Lucas, and make him get off his well fed, complancent backside and make us give a darn about his billion dollar baby. (Please, God, don't let this movie suck as bad as the other two)
most people's opinions suck...

The "real" one is garbage. Looks like the cheesiest thing to come out of the franchise since Jar Jar Binks.
The fan made one is a good concept, though of sub par quality. Neither, in my mind passes as worthy of a professional movie poster, though the fan made one is far ahead of the "real" one.

From the look of the offical poster, and the web site artwork, it seems Lucas wants more of an anime influence on this "last" Star Wars movie. I think the fan poster is very creative, cool, and classic.

The official poster kicks ass, it tells us that between the second and third movies, Anakin has already begun to give in to darkness, and has already begun amassing the rediculous amount of battle scars he has underneath his mask. The only problem is the incorportated vader mask in the cape, that shouldn't have been there. At this point its close enough that it isn't necessary, you can already see Darth Vader emerging.

The official poster has a more interesting and dynamic composition. The human character is half cut away, his future is emerging from the darkness. The character expresses himself, he appears ready to strike.
The fan poster has a figure standing in the center, not a particularly strong composition. And he simply stands there as if he's been told to pose for the camera (yes, it's a publicity still), there's no mood or feeling - no story suggested. Reflections and shadows of vader are a bit hackneyed in this situation: we've seen them for six years or so.
As far as "classic" style, remember the old Star Wars IV poster with Luke's open shirt and Leia's plunging neckline?

There's few reason why the fans one is better and few why you can obviously the fan made one has very little effert put into it. One, everything below anakin is is just totally done in photoshop. what's worst is you can see where it's cut off at. There's no shine on the rest of the deck, like there is where anakin stands. Darth Vader's reflexion is too short for compairence to anakin 's height, the lighting and the type of set. The good side of it is you can easily tell that's there's a relationship between the reflexion with how it connects up threw the black of the outfits to younger man. There's also pretty overall wonderful picture handsome older Anakin. wahoo...not like everyone cares but some people like seeing the whole picture of him and it's back farer so can't quite see so much of what he looks like. Since you see him like that psychology people can "relate" to the character more. Plus this picture follows "the rules of thirds" a bit more but not by much. The picture is in center but it's close to top most line. Although it's kind of plan simple it doesn't have any intensity nor conveny a sense of emotion the official one does.
Reason why the first poster was given that style and look, is simple. close ups. It gives you more intensity, relation and emotion from the characters to a audience. The picture tells the story and really tells the about the darker tone of it. Which lucas said the 3 movie was going to, "the darkest of star wars movies".
The dark figure is following more of the rule thirds kind-of-sort in the same way the fan made one is. What doesn't work is Anakin's face being cut off. X_x bad bad bad.... bold but bad. If this was perhaps a wider poster the characters shown pushed to left and an ray of the other character in the that set of mood and style I could this really work a lot more like how fan poster is for some. why? well, then it would be more dyamtic then the rather plan, simple and quiet fan poster.
lol, You can tell I like the official post really.... I like darker tone and I like of anakin there. XD Plus the scar just really works for me. Overall the official poster totally sets me into the mood of the movie a lot more then fan one. But hey, that's me and not everyone else's opinion.
---Pardon me I kind want to say this towards the people who don't repect anothers right to their opinion. What I don't understand is why some people can't handle others opinions and have to "dis" on others. Then oh my god! Some of "dis" is witty! wahoo! yeah sure whatever... big man, sure doesn't tell a lot about you. I hope you girlfriend dumps you after she realize how much you don't repect her opinion ether. *pif* when people do that whole "dis'in-thing" they certainly are very constructive about it. They reply, thinking it's in there defence, but really such things just make ya look like you being stubborn and immmature. oh, then they susposely "uncaring" about what other people think... what I don't under is if don't care why do they reply towards it? Then these negetive immature people think of themself as good people and even honorable. O_o then umm... why they negative towards others opinions? I mean if there going to make negetive comments then perhaps use a little less generializing and bandwagoning. Plus, understanding more of where the other person's is coming with their opinion before you starting argueing with them wouldn't hurt ether. Maybe then a wouldn't be taken as fool then someone "shoves-it-in-your-face." Okay, I repeat that for only people on here that don't seem to repect other peoples opinion or just have one hell of immature one. *rolls eyes*
....anyway, I don't think the frist movie sucked all that much other wise it wouldn't have gotten a big of fanfair as it did. although I'm pretty sad Lucas lost the "used-gallaxy" look that he talked about him making in the other trilogy. Not like that acting was too much different, Hamill and Hayden don't differ that much.... sorry. I mean at least Lucas got what he was looking for the characters. lol, I'm fan of hamill to.. Seaquest, Wing commander and Gyver. wahoo.

The fake one looks a lot like the hallway that Jamiroqui floats down in his "Virtual Insanity video". It does give off a feel more like the original Star War's movies, but let's face it. The movies they are making now are not/nor are they meant to be confused with the original Star Wars movies. As for George Lucas doing the last three, I hope that he doesn't. Hopefully, ten or twenty years down the line someone else, maybe someone that Lucas himself respected as a film-maker, will make the movies. That way instead of just a Star Wars Collection, you also have an interesting look at the progression of film.

The guy who made the fan poster could only have worked from the images he could get hold of, it wasn't like he could exactly phone up Hayden for a photoshoot was it?

I believe that "interesting" and "dynamic" have been in the dictionary for quite some time, so I don't think you can call them "buzz" words. If you wanted to say something about "interesting", you would have to say "Interesting to whom?". Dynamic is easily used since Anakin standing there isn't exactly "dynamic". The other poster is more dynamic (is a little more energetic) than the fan made one. So, don't say they're buzz words unless they really are buzz words. If you go to Episode III and you say you thought it was interesting, would you like it if someone replied with "What are you stupid? Interesting is just a buzz word. Think of something better to say."

Wow! The new movie looks so cool! I've seen all the new stuff on it! It took me so long, but it's so cool! I love both of the pictures! I would give ANYTHING to be a jedi! I am waiting for more items and facts to be released about the movie, cuz' I've seen everything there is already! I want more pictures! I need to get a bigger room so I can fit all the posters I have on the walls. There's no room left! I already ordered both of these posters! I can't wait!!! All the movies were so cool! I want to be a jedi! I want to be a jedi! I want to be a JEDI!!! Sometimes I get depressed because I'm not... I want to fly starships and have a lihtsaber and move things with the force! I wish I could have married Queen Amidala... I wish I knew Obi-Wan Kenobi... Or, I wish I WAS him!!! I have all of the toy lightsabers but I don't have a real one. Life sucks so bad. I want to meet the God of Gods, George Lucas, and be with him as he does the movies. I wonder if he actually knows Luke Skywalker... Wow, I want to meet him. I've gone to all the major star wars conventions and stuff, but no matter how hard I tried I wasn't allowed to go near to him. Oh!...star wars is the BEST!!!
WHAT?!!!

Just about all of you are complete morons and can't respect sh*t. i like the second poster, but it looks a little amature and i definately couldn't see it as and actual movie poster. The First one is fu*king awsome, i don't care what anyone says. I really love the dark feel of the first poster and i like the cape into the helmet illusion. I understand that everyone has their opinions, but if you really love star wars like I do, then why say that the first poster sucks. It just seems like your trying to find reasons to hate it when there is none. Now you may not like it, but don't just say it sucks unless you truly don't like star wars, and if you don't like star wars, then don't type on a star wars message board. And some of you sound like little kids and if you are, quit trying to bad mouth your much wiser elders, ok?
