Johnny Depp will play Willy Wonka in the remake of "Charlie and the Chocolate factory." ?The new film is being directed by Tim Burton ("Edward Scissorhands," "Batman") and co-stars Freddie Highmore as Charlie. ?
Depp as Wonka, I guess.
That's it. ?This picture is sort of disappointing. ?Grainy, black and white, and boring. ?But you saw it here first! ?The new film co-stars Freddie Highmore ("Five Children and It") as Charlie.
Helena Bonham Carter ("Fight Club") will also co-star as Mrs. Bucket. ?The first film was first released as an adaptation of a Roald Dahl novel in 1971
For those of you just waking from a coma, the film tells the story of Charlie, a poor boy who wins a contest, gaining entry into the secretive, magical world of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, along with several other eccentric children. ?Along with the prize is the chance to become heir to Wonka's crazy, magic candy world and all of the fame and fortune that comes along with it.
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is due out July 2005.

Yes, I can tell just from that picture (that looks like someone just pasted a top hat onto a photo of Johnny Depp) that the movie will indeed flop.

Some movies were not meant for remake. The origanal still tempts grabs the interest of little children. It will only damage the history of a classic movie.

First of all, it's not a remake, it's a completely different movie based on the book. Dahl hated the first movie, so at least give this one a chance to be more true to his work and honorable to his memory.
Second of all, there are color versions of the same (or similar) picture, and they are quite good. I've read on IMDB that the big sunglasses are because he's about to go into the TV room, which makes sense.
Thirdly and finally, with as little info about the movie as has been leaked as of yet, it's hard to tell. Be patient and give Burton a chance.

I think that with Tim Burton directing we can expect a very different film from the original in terms of style and also, with Johnny Depp playing Willie Wonka I think we can expect another great, over-the-top performance like he gave in 'Pirates of the Carribean'.

I think that Tim Burton is the imaginative director,producer,etc of all time. Everything he does is superb. I feel that no other person could do a better job on Charlie and The Chocolate Factory than Burton. I am looking forward to seeing this film!!!!!!!!!

If it's Tim Burton directing, you can be certain that it'll be a bit on the darker side. (hel-LO!! did any of you actually READ the book?) So I'm going to be anticipating a great film. Depp proved himself with Edward Scissorhands- give the guy a shot! (though Robin Wiliams could have been suitably dark)
all I want is to really see what a Vermicious Knid looks like....

Actually, it is a totally different movie that the one Gene Wilder did. The script writer didn't even see the one that Wilder had done and wrote the script based on the novel. When he was done and script was approved he was allowed to see the first move and was surprised at how much darker the first movie was to the script he'd written. So I don't think it's going to be a extremely dark movie. Tim Burton doesn't always go towards the dark side. Look at Big Fish for instance.

I have very much worry for a movie done by tim Burton. He is too over the top sometimes and I think personally that this kind of movie is very dangerous. The wit and humor of Wonka is very delicate and can be taken over the line easily. I am also tired of teenie Bopper girls who think Depp is the greatest thing since sliced bread. He may be attractive but that does not mean he is talented enough to play this role!

In addition, I think we should just leave well enough alone. Why mess with perfection like Willy Wonka. Everyone loves that movie, including children of the modern day. Case and point: Tim Burton is oddly artistic and not suited to do this movie and Depp....We'll see how he does with the challenge of this part

yeah...they are two different movies. I dont know which will be better but it is obvious that will not be the same and no one can deny that. I mean this one is singing the willie wonka song in a sarcastic kind of way. But I dont think he looks like a woman. And besides willi wonka is soposed to look a little unusual.

jonny depp is a great actor he's on of my favorite actors and one of my most favorite movie in the entire world is "CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY" I love that movie i saw it so many times like 40 times and that movie is awsome funny and cool im about to watch that again tomorrow.Jonny depp is the best actor funny and cool in the way he looks in the movie "CHARLIE AND CHOCOLATE FACTORY" wearing those chains, big chains and the way he's say "UR REALLY WIERD OR UR REALLY FUNNY.
