They said they weren't doing an origin movie, how can they use someone so young? God, it makes me wish they'd go all out and do something drastic like maybe casting someone who actually looks like Superman from the comics instead of all these pretty boys.

I don't believe it would ever happen but... I think it would be cool to see an animated film by Alex Ross. His paintings of heroes, Superman in particular, are very striking. His art is my favorite interpretation of Superman. Besides, I'd rather see Superman as an icon, rather than associate him with any actor, no matter how exceptional their performance. Just my opinion.

I personally think that Alex's art has done for superheroes what Norman Rockwell did for americana. Before him Capra would have had not much to go on. Shaymalayan used Alex's art for inspiration in Unbreakable, and he feautures promently at the begining of Spiderman 2. I believe that a realistic movie the quality of Alex's stuff would be impossible. However the inpiration to finding a guy who doesn't look like a gay pin up boy could be well regarded by people around the world. A Superman that actually inspires, one that actually looks like Superman that would be a really good one. If not might as well go with Ashton Kutcher.

Honestly, if you do a Superman movie and do not, in part, do an origin movie, the movie will probably end up campy. The only way to do it right is to first write a script that ties all superman mythologys together. The best way to do this and have old fans be happy and bring new fans to the screen, is to have a two part film. When Superman The Movie was made, it was a two parter. The first movie ended with Lois Lane dying. This isn't how it ended up because WB thought that people woudn't come back to see the second movie. I disagree. Personally I would like to see a movie called The Life and Death of the Superman. This would include an origin story and would end the first part with Superman's death (according to the comic book). Then the second story would bring Superman back. Eliminate many characters that were in the comic, make it as serious as possible and you have your movie. When casting the movie GET A NO NAME PLEASE!!! Christopher Reeve was not a big star when he was cast.

Also, Christopher Reeve is a clasically trained actor. When he was cast, the same debate happend. Richard Donner was ready to give up when he saw this skinny dorky actor walk in, but when he read the scenes, they knew instantly. When you cast someone in a role like that, they can't just be the best actor for the job the you see, you have to get the only person possible.

Tom Welling shouldn't be in a Superman movie for a number of reasons. He isn't good enough or old enough. Most importantly, he shouldn't do it if he wants to do other things as an actor. He is getting much better as an actor and a movie would make him Superman forever and nothing else.

According to the commentary on the DVD, the whole thing with Lois dying and Superman having to turn back time was meant to happen at the end of the second movie.
Also, I still can't understand with they rejected Kevin Smith's "Superman Lives" script, I thought it was great, I mean it even had Batman in it.

It should be with Tom Welling, seeing as he is already on Smallville and why have yet another Superman, stick with one Superman per Generation. And why bother anyway, the 2005 Movie people will just want to make it "cooler" and more "action packed' so it's doomed already.
