TV's "Get Smart" is headed to the big screen and now the producers have chosen their leading man, according to MovieHole. ?Steve Carell ("Anchorman," "Bruce Almighty," TV's "The Daily Show with John Stewart") has been signed to play Maxwell Smart, beating out (rumor has it) Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell.

Carell has yet to receive top billing in a film, but his comedic prowess is evident in everything he has worked on to date. ?Fans of "The Daily Show" will agree that Carell has what it takes to lead a comic film. ?And he is perfect to play Maxwell Smart in an update of "Get Smart."
The original series was created by Mel Brooks ("Blazing Saddles," ?"Spaceballs") and told the story of bumbling secret agent Maxwell Smart (aka Agent 86) who used every ounce of brain power in him to thwart the evil crime syndicate KAOS.
Needless to say, "Get Smart" is a comedy.
