SUPERMAN Casting Gossip!!!

As we reported before, Bryan Singer ("X-Men" films) is officially aboard to direct the new "Superman." ?On the heels of that welcome newsbite comes some rumors about who will play the new Superman. ?Here are three of the potential contenders.

James Caviezel ("The Passion of the Christ")

According to Dark Horizons:

Jim Caviezel was a guest star on "What's Next" on the TV Guide channel. He concluded the interview by saying he hopes his next role involves alot of working out, blue tights, and a red cape.

And MovieHole reports that their reliable source indicates Caviezel as Singer's top pick to play the Man of Steel.

MovieHole also cites the following as contenders for the role:

Eion Bailey ("Band of Brothers")

Josh Duhamel ("All My Children" [television])

More "Superman" news when it happens.

Eion Bailey has got probably more of a superman look about him but James Caviezel is a pretty fine actor. Out of those three I'd probably go with Eion.

no way, these 3 geeks have been chosen to play superman...they shouls forget these guys and bring in either dean cain or that other geeza from superman smallville series, they will do a good job....anyone agree ?

Eion Bailey ain't half bad. How about a good old Bruce Campbell as Superman. I good go for Tom Welling (the other geeza from superman smallville series). I could bare to see him in spandex again. :)

Hey, considering Jason Behr, Jared Padalecki, Nicolas Cage, Josh Hartnett, Paul Walker, Matthew Bomer, Brendan Fraser, Ashton Kutcher, David Boreanaz, Ian Somerhalder, Henry Cavill and Jerry O'Connell were all rumoured or considered for the role of Superman, Dean Cain doesn't seem *that* insane.

How about Michael Clark Duncan, he was superb as the Black Kingpin in Daredevil, or Collin Farrel, who likewise was superb as the Irish, midget, retarded version of Bullseye.


Seriously, I'd go with:

Eric Bana, Clive Owen, or perhaps Jackman.

Well the funny thing about superman is that he has the most awful disguise. Think of it if you were a superhero and you plan on wearing a pair of glasses is going to hide your identity? I think not. Superman is a kool character, but he's done. Now I wonder how and what will the new superman movie is going to be....doomsday..no.. I wish..

How about Braniac? I thought the way Christopher Reeves played Superman made the whole disguise thing alot more plasable; as Superman he was sulen-faced and confident, as Clark he was bumbling and a wimp. It was this change in personalities that made it realistic. One of the many things that used annoy me about The New Adventures Of Superman was that Dean Cain never made any attempt to play Superman and Clark any differently.

Jim Caviezel could probably do it. Same with Christopher Reeve in the original. He  looked totally different after working out, then he fit the part. So if Caviezel pumps up, he could do it.

exactly the best thing for the film would to see an unknown, it worked for Christopher Reeve. If you get someone that everyone knows, than there will be more of a mixed reactiion. If it is an unknown people can just sit back and enjoy. Instead of thinking wasn't this the kid in that one movie.

some say that the title is a catching title letting everyone know that superman is returning, and will be changed before. The movies release. Either way I think that this movie will be made, and made well.

What's funny is that I watched Band of Brothers over the weekend for the first time, and I hadn't heard of the people in the running for the role of the man of steel, but when i saw Webber (Eion Bailey) I instantly said "HE should be the next Superman.  He's perfect for the part.  From a woman's perspective, the guy's face is the IDEAL face for Superman... Strong jaw line, perfect chin. and he looks like he could rescue you.  I like Jim Cavizel, but he doesn't look like a Superman.  He'd have to bulk up A-LOT.  Superman should have a strong comforting look to him and Jim Cavizel doesn't have it. I like him as an actor, but I think playing Jesus and playing Superman would give him a HUGE EGO.  My vote is for Eion.  I cast that vote before I knew his name and before he was even in the running.  GOOD LUCK EION

I think Tom Wellings should play the next superman, because he's definitely got the look already playing him in the series "Smallville".He's acting part down already. I'm pretty sure that the people who do watch smallville would like to see him as superman. If Christopher Reeves liked him I think it should be dedicated to him.

Please let's not put another "pretty boy" as Superman.  Just because Christopher Reeve had some of those elements in his face does not give us that mandate. Brandon Routh looked too weak and Tim Welling fits right in to the nightmarish slow-moving soap opera that is Smallville, but I'm tired of seeing a so-so depiction of Superman. Open a comic book. Superman is ruggedly handsome with a protruding chin. Tim Welling isn't. Next!
