ARONOFSKY to Direct WATCHMEN

The large, hairy geeks over at aintitcool.com are reporting that ass kicking director Darren Aronofsky (if you don't know what he's done you're stupid. ?See Pi) has agreed to, or is in the running to direct the film adaptation of the beautiful graphic novel, THE WATCHMEN. ?If the scoop is real, thats damn good news for comic book fans (and the rest of us film freaks).

Aronofsky is in pre-production on his trippy epic, The Fountain, and is reportedly going to slip on the WATCHMEN after the Fountain wraps.

The WATCHMEN is another comic from famed film-adaptation-hater, comic author Alan Moore. ?Awhile ago, ass kicking director Terry Gilliam wanted to adapt WATCHMEN but studio bastards wouldn't pony up the bucks. ?WATCHMEN tells the story of a world wherein famed superheroes are being killed off, one by one. ?If you're unfamiliar (and you call yourself educated?!), check it out.

I am very jazzed to see The Watchmen brought to the screen. But, I have some serious doubts. The Watchmen can not be done justice in a 2-3 hour movie. Also, The Watchmen is dark and ugly... I can't imagine it being made honestly unless done as a hard "R" or possibly NC-17. The Watchmen would be better as an HBO or Showtime miniseries.

I know it's going to be difficult, but, wow, this sounds ge-rate.

I am seriously glad that Watchmen is getting this kind af attention.

Darren Aronofsky is one of the greatest directors of our time. "Pi" and "Requiem For A Dream" are both reason enough for me to be excited about this project. Wasn't he supposed to do an adaptation of Batman too? I haven't heard anything about that in a long time.
