Cruise, Spielberg to go to War

Yeap. ?Straight guy Tom Cruise and the king of detail, Steven Spielberg have agreed to remake the classic sci-fi pic, War of the Worlds. ?The orignal Worlds was, of course, based on Orson Welles' radioplay that freaked a few people out.

The pair claim to be fasttracking the project to go before the cameras before Indiana Jones 4. ?David Koepp (writer-director of Secret Window, one of many writers on Spiderman 1, also wrote Panic Room) has been handed the rewrite.

what ever happened to the remake that was already underway a few years ago... i cant find the link to the production company site, but they had intended to to be extremely scary and set in modern times, with skyscrapers collapsing and planes falling out of the sky.. and i beleive micheal caine was set to star in it... then 9/11 happened and they decided to change the setting to its orinal as in the book... what ever happened to that project? does anyone know?

You're right about the remake allegedly starring Sir Caine. However, it looks like that one never came about. Check out some of the early press releases.

This one talks about Sir Michael Caine's involvment as well as Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey and Harry Knowles?!?

This one makes some vague references to their production of War of the Worlds.

Ok Speilberg, so where does Indiana Jones 4 fit into all this? Harrison Ford's not getting any younger.
