International Superstar and Hong Kong Fooey, Jackie Chan has NOT signed up to join Steve Martin in the new Pink Panther movie. Chan will NOT play the hapless servant, Kato, to Martin's Inspector Clouseau. Buzz on the MGM project has be widely publicized and so has this rumor, but its false. MGM confirmed today that Chan as Kato was just a big dumb rumor.
Shawn Levy (directed the lame "Just Married" and lots of TV) is det to direct the pic (not Martin himself, which was reported earlier and sounded a hell of a lot better than Levy). ?MGM is hoping for a Memorial Day weekend '05 release.

Well for a modern Pink Panther movie you can't get a more obvious person to play Kato than Jackie Chan.

Chan would be perfact as it is a comedic role and he'd have that down so easy.

I think it would better to have a British acter playing the part of Inspector Clouseau: Maby Mr.Bean star Rowan Atkinson,or John Clease, of Monty Python fame. And Jackie Chan as Kato.

As much as I admire Steve Martin, I think they should leave the Pink Panther series alone. Peter Sellers was a comic genius whose Inspector Closeau character could never be duplicated by another.
