Steve Martin, the jerk, has signed on with MGM to become the new Inspector Clouseau and MGM is damn psyched about it.Steve Martin, the jerk, has signed on with MGM to become the new Inspector Clouseau and MGM is damn psyched about it.

Apparently they think everybody hates them except for those Bond films and now are acting like hotshots because of this new Pink Panther deal, the Barbershop films, the Beauty Shop spin-offs, and more Bond. ?Lets hope Martin surrounds himself with good help.

They picked the wrong Amigo! It should be Martin Short.

you are so wrong.  have you ever even watched a pink panther movie??  martin short, although a very good comedy actor, would be more of a spoof of the pink panther.  the pink panther  is a character that is known to be kind of ignorant of his surroundings, but yet with an air of sophistication, and still gets the bad guy in the end.

i can see martin short playing the part of the person being ignorant of his surroundings.  i just can't see him as having an air of sophistication around him.  i am not saying that steve martin is exactly the person to carry on as the pink panther, but he is probably the best one out there.  they tried to carry on with the pink panther movies after peter sellers died and failed terribly.  so, the verdict is still out in my book.

No one will ever be able to replace Peter Sellers in my opinion.  He defined Clouseau and gave him all the character traits I grew to love.  Either Steve Martin will copy what he did or do something else.  Either way, I won't find it the same.

The only actor who can put on the sophisticated air of ignorant arrogance today would visually be Kevin Spacey - if he has the talent for sublime idiocy and slapstick that Sellers was a genius at. There is only one Sellers. Let's hope there may be more than one Clousso. I'm willing to give Steve Martin a go - at least he has a background in comedy - but he has big shoes to fill.

Steve Martin is the only choice for this role. He's funnier than everyone else, more talented, and clearly is box office gold for three decades running.

Considering that the later Pink Panther films seem unfunny to me today, I couldn't see it working any more even if Sellers was still alive and playing the role. (Of course this is only my humble opinion.) And this is coming from a big Peter Sellers fan. I'll always feel that the first Pink Panther and A Shot In The Dark (and A Shot In The Dark being the most hillarious Sellers vehicle) are the ultimate Clouseau films. But as far as reviving the Clouseau character, it died with Sellers, for he was Clouseau. No one else. I think past tries have certainly proved that. Oh well, I guess we shall see....

everyone in this post except for the Seller's purists are idiots.

Steve Martin? Lucky hack.

Martin Short? Give me a break.

Spacey? Hmmm ... maybe. I guess the Spacey guy has neurons that are firing.
