you are so wrong. have you ever even watched a pink panther movie?? martin short, although a very good comedy actor, would be more of a spoof of the pink panther. the pink panther is a character that is known to be kind of ignorant of his surroundings, but yet with an air of sophistication, and still gets the bad guy in the end.
i can see martin short playing the part of the person being ignorant of his surroundings. i just can't see him as having an air of sophistication around him. i am not saying that steve martin is exactly the person to carry on as the pink panther, but he is probably the best one out there. they tried to carry on with the pink panther movies after peter sellers died and failed terribly. so, the verdict is still out in my book.

Considering that the later Pink Panther films seem unfunny to me today, I couldn't see it working any more even if Sellers was still alive and playing the role. (Of course this is only my humble opinion.) And this is coming from a big Peter Sellers fan. I'll always feel that the first Pink Panther and A Shot In The Dark (and A Shot In The Dark being the most hillarious Sellers vehicle) are the ultimate Clouseau films. But as far as reviving the Clouseau character, it died with Sellers, for he was Clouseau. No one else. I think past tries have certainly proved that. Oh well, I guess we shall see....
