For everyone who complains about the story for FF, I ask them if they have ever wasted countless hours of their life playing FF7. Invariably, they answer 'no'. The thing about this movie and the game is that it just drones on like some crazy dream with a decently connected plot.
Granted, it my not fit the formula of hollywood blockbusters (30% action, 8% music, 12% good vs evil, etc.) but that's what makes it a frikkin FF movie. Subject your imagination to enjoy it for what it is rather than condemning it for its failure to fit within your narrow cultural mindset.
That being said, the story looks almost identical to a bug's life or antz or whatever.

I like the FF gaming world but thought the film was not as good as it should have been.
I really sensed that the film was trying to be the best CG movie ever made rather than the best movie ever made.
It's kind of like the new Star Wars films when compared to the old ones. The original films had great characters and were great fun. The new films, while fun in their own right, seem more intent on showing you the visuals and "fleshing out" the surroundings than focusing on the characters and bringing the story to life.
The FF film makes this same mistake. This makes these films seem less "human" to me.
