I've never seen Shallow Hal. However, I'm not sure that it fits into the "Chick Flick" Category. A chick flick would have to inlcude (depending on the target audience) the likes of Chris Klein, Freddy Prince, Jr., Nicholas Cage, Matthew McConaughey or anyone from Friends. Then it would have to be directed by Adam Shankman or some BS director like that (or even a good director like John Madden).
Shallow Hal on the other hand stars Jack Black! And is directed/produced by the Farrelly Brothers who are most famous for Dumb and Dumber and There's Something About Mary!
Believe it

I was surprised, but I speak the truth. Besides Office space has Jennifer Anniston, is not in any way a chick flick.
To put a more precise description to it, a chick flick is a "romantic comedy" That has various plot twists that "unexpectedly" involves an "unlikely" couple somehow getting "together".
How about those rules?

1- One or both characters are engaged to someone else.
2-One or both of them will do stupid or risky things to get the other.
3-Their friends (maybe mutual) are trying to hook them up.
4-One of them is heartbroked and leave, and the other runs to get him/her after the departure (airport, train station)
5-They kiss each other at the end, even if they didn't have sex during the movie.
